Pink Aesthetics (Gingivoplasty)

Achieving an aesthetic smile in individuals cannot be accomplished solely with white and well-aligned teeth. The gums must also be in harmony with these teeth. The aesthetic work performed on the gums is referred to as pink aesthetics. Among the factors that complete dental aesthetics, it’s essential for the gums to be healthy, have the right color, and be at the correct level in relation to the teeth.

Obtaining an attractive and harmonious smile from a frontal view starts with achieving the necessary harmony between teeth and gums. Healthy gums are characterized by being light pink in color, adhering tightly to the teeth and bone, and having a slightly dimpled and orange peel-like appearance. The first step in achieving a beautiful, clean, and harmonious smile is ensuring the alignment between teeth and gums. For gum health, the gum should have a light pink color, attach firmly to the tooth and bone, and exhibit a slightly dimpled and textured appearance. Achieving a flawless smile is the goal of aesthetic dentistry. Gingival aesthetics are crucial for achieving a smile that can be considered flawless. In order for a smile to be pleasant, teeth, gums, jaws, and lips need to be in harmony. Depending on the presence of the issue related to gum aesthetics, different surgical methods can be used. While some gum tissue needs to be shaped during a smile to reduce excessive visibility of gums (Gummy Smile), other cases require a slight reduction in gum tissue.

Flap Operations

This procedure involves both the gum tissue and the supporting tissues and root surfaces beneath it. It is performed in cases of bone loss. With this technique, the gum tissue is lifted properly to reach the underlying tissues and provide treatment. The main goal is to thoroughly clean the root surfaces and reduce pocket depth. Removing deep pockets is crucial as the bacteria within them can lead to more bone loss and tooth loss. After the operation, pocket depths are reduced or eliminated, making it easier for the patient to perform oral care at home and for the dentist to conduct professional check-ups, ensuring the maintenance of periodontal health. The patient can preserve their natural teeth and avoid overall health problems caused by infections originating from pockets.

Gingivectomy

This procedure only involves the gum tissue. It is the removal of a certain amount of gum tissue by cutting and excising it to eliminate gum pockets and gum enlargements. This halts the progression of the disease, allowing the patient to maintain better oral hygiene and possess a more aesthetic gum line.

Laser

Laser devices developed for both soft and hard tissues allow for sutureless and sometimes anesthesia-free minor surgical procedures. Soft tissue levels can be aesthetically positioned, gum enlargements can be excised, implant site preparation can be performed, and frenectomies can be carried out using LASER without bleeding.
